Activities and Resources

In this section of the Lancashire Grid for Learning we aim to provide, or link to, high quality resources that will support the development of good teaching and learning in mathematics.

The Hat and Cool Timer are two useful pieces of freeware which can be downloaded from online-stopwatch.  Click on the icon to download the software.


The Illuminations section of the American National Council of Teachers of Mathematics website provides lesson plans, activities and resources designed to mprove the teaching and learning of mathematics for all students. Click on the icon to link to the website. 


This professional Development programme was originally designed for teachers of Adult Numeracy working with learners from Entry Level through to Level 2.  It will also be useful to secondary mathematics teachers.  Click on the icon to link to the training pack and student resources. The link will take you to the NCETM website where this resource is now held. You can register with NCETM for free.


Improving Learning in Mathematics


The Improving Learning in Mathematics box provides a wide range of resources and advice for teachers to support the development of effective teaching and learnng in mathematics.  There is no charge for the materials.

Learning Zone Broadband is a rich source of audio-visual sequences selected to work with the curriculum.  Click on the icon to link to the secondary mathematics section of the website.



WisWeb is the Freudenthal Institute's website for secondary mathematics education. The main focus of the site is small interactive computer programs. The programs can be used for several purposes, such as to explore a problem situation, to discover a representation or a concept, to construct and explore 3D-objects, or to practice a skill.
