The answer was orange peel.
Orange Peel
Oranges and vitamin C

Oranges need a warm climate to grow and are therefore grown in the Mediterranean and the USA, e.g. California which is called the Orange State. They will alos grow well in glasshouses or a conservatory. We associate the orange with its vitamin C content but they also contains contains folic acid, potassium, and thiamin, as well as some calcium and magnesium.
Oranges are high in vitamin C. Lack of vitamin C was a problem for sailors in on long voyages. Deficiency of vitamin C in diets causes the disease scurvy. The symptoms of this deficiency are bleeding gums and teeth falling out. Furthermore the skin will not heal after being cut.
