Improving Teaching and Learning through the Outstanding use of ICT.

  Network CoordinatoJames WrightThe Lancashire Digital Technologies (ICT) Research Network is a group of Lancashire schools working together to develop and share best practice and to evidence the impact of digital technologies within Outstanding lessons.

There are currently 39 member schools across Lancashire

Digital technologies may substantially contribute to Outstanding lessons, supporting well motivated pupils and allowing improved opportunities for learning to flourish.

The network was launched in 2014 as an opportunity for schools to work together to evaluate and share best practice as a result of the improved use of digital technologies. In particular subject leaders are supported in planning how digital devices may be deployed within any classroom to help underpin Outstanding teaching and to facilitate excellent behaviour for learning opportunities, as identified within the Ofsted inspection framework.

Course Materials

The network works to develop and trial materials produced by county Primary Adviser, James Wright from the linked course. (Link to MAN113)

In particular we focus specifically upon how digital technology may:

  • Improve rates of pupil progress through modeling and reference strategies.
  • Underpin Assessment for Learning goals by providing outstanding opportunities for review and reflection.
  • Raise aspirations through increased challenge, expectation and opportunities.
  • Enhance learning environments through greater access, engagement and support.


Each term 'volunteer' schools work directly with the adviser within key targeted areas to extend practice. Sessions are recorded and culminate in cluster meetings within the project host school to platform this and other work

Materials arising from the course and on-going action research shall feature within forthcoming Lancashire Learning Excellence publications.
