Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council Prevent team were chosen, as one of the areas nationally to pilot a Lancashire countywide approach to Prevent Delivery

Prevent Delivery Officers work with students to raise awareness and resilience, and deliver Prevent training to staff, governors and parents. The aim is to help stop vulnerable individuals from becoming involved in extremism or supporting terrorist activity.

As we continue to face the challenging and demanding COVID 19 situation, we are aware that majority of people will still be at home for extended periods and are likely to be spending increasing amounts of time online. The online world is a necessity for most of us, however that also leaves individuals vulnerable to online influence.

Unfortunately, that influence may be from extremists who may use the COVID 19 outbreak to promote hateful views, for example, conspiracy theories and spreading of misinformation and blaming particular groups.

In raising awareness and increasing understanding of digital safety, parents , carers and practitioners will be better equipped to safeguard loved ones and those in their care from a range of harms. Whether that’s child sexual exploitation, fraud, or extremist influences seeking to radicalise vulnerable people.
