Funding|PML Funding
The Department for Education announced plans to continue funding Primary Languages via the Dedicated School Grant (DSG). This will be devolved to schools and means that funding will go directly into school budgets. Please contact Jane Hegedus if you have any queries about this. WE ARE NOW IN ENTITLEMENT! The Entitlement for all children in Key Stage 2 to learn a language remains in place. It is important that schools realise the entitlement statement, put in place by the previous government, has not been withdrawn and the expectation is that schools will continue to deliver a modern language to all children across key stage 2. It will remain in place until 2012 or until further announcements regarding the place of languages in the new national curriculum are made. The review of the new national curriculum has begun and will take place over 2 years meaning full implementation is not likely to happen until September 2014. It has already been decided that English, Mathematics, Science and Physical Education will remain core subjects within the National Curriculum at all four key stages For all other subjects that are currently part of the National Curriculum, including Languages, the review will first consider whether or not they should remain National Curriculum subjects and if so at which key stages. It will also be an option to make a subject compulsory but not part of the National Curriculum. This would mean that schools would have to teach the subject but there would be no statutory Programmes of Study in a given Key Stage.
