The project aims at developing creative teaching practices in partnership with artists and professionals from a range of areas, fostering children’s abilities to think independently and flexibly

Proposed Partnerships:

The Carnival of the Animals will build on new and established work by creative professionals in Cumbria and Lancashire.  Working with children and their teachers, they will encourage

  • Different approaches to problem solving
  • Experimentation and risk taking

Children in Cumbria and Lancashire schools will work independently and collaboratively devising solutions to challenges involving the study of animal behaviour across curriculum areas. They will draw on Saint Saens’ Carnival of the Animals as a stimulus.

e.g.

·        Using ICT solutions to structure and orchestrate music to be performed by Lancashire Sinfonietta in local, regional and virtual concerts

·        Composing music to reflect ways animals move, using voices, music and ICT (with LA music services)

  • Interpreting animal behaviour and movement through creative dance (with South Indian Dance practitioner
  • Animation
  • Designing habitats and spaces: Global dimension: conservation issues
  • Designing carnival costumes and masks, and planning and organising a carnival procession within communities (with Carnival artists)
  • Performance poems
  • Planning and organising a virtual carnival across schools using videoconference technology (with RBC)
