• they are usually written in chronological (time) order, using connectives (joining words) such as then, next, after
• they focus on individuals or groups i.e. usually written in the first or third person e.g. we, I, they, he, she

Examples of this type of text would include writing about visits or events; things that happened in the past; newspaper accounts; and biographical or autobiographical writing.
