The start of a new term in September in EYFS classrooms means time spent settling into a new classroom, meeting staff and making new friends. It is an exciting time for everyone with a new environment to explore and new learning to take place. Observational assessment plays a key role in establishing prior experiences, knowledge, understanding and skills as well as more focused opportunities to identify an accurate on-entry baseline assessment for each child. Lancashire EYFS Teaching and Learning Consultants have produced a publication to support skilled practitioners in providing the relevant opportunities and activities to support this onservational assessment at the beginning of the reception year.
