     Welcome to our Assessment for Learning (AfL) website

This website is designed to explore the potential and power of AfL; how to effectively embed it in practice and ways of supporting that process.

It is the bedrock of outstanding teaching and when effective, profoundly impacts learning. It is therefore not suprising that it now features much more specifically in the newly issued Ofsted criteria and  the SEF,(Self - evaluation form).

AfL plays a major role in driving the new revised National Curriculum and in supporting the development of cross-curricular learning in all areas of  school life. For example the key initiatives like SEAL (Social and emotional aspects of learning); literacy, numeracy, ICT, PLaTS (Personal Learning and Thinking Skills) and it is essential for the effective use and implementation of APP (Assessing Pupil Progress) across the curriculum.

Many of the more interactive resources and many of those linking to the other key innitiatives will eventually all be located on the Moodle. See below.

What is new?

AfL Moodle

We are in the process of developing a Moodle with a range of resources on it to support teachers and those leading on AfL in schools.

The main sections will include;

  1. AfL Strategic Management – consisting of two sections; AfL Strategic Lead Networks and Management support;
  2. AfL key features including related pedagogies;
  3. AfL and links to  other initiatives – including SEAL, PLATS,  Learning to Learn, literacy across the curriculum, ICT;
  4. AfL and APP in subjects;
  5. Assessment and data;
  6. A forum for support between schools and between consultants and school.

The section on Strategic management is most advanced and the Moodle will now be the main forum for all the resources from the AfL Strategic Lead Networks along with dates, venues and agendas for forthcoming meetings.

It is hoped that in time, as well as providing schools with a range of resources and links there will also be many more interactive resources for use by schools or individuals.

We would welcome ideas and suggestions and please use the forum to share these with us and others.

Thank you.
